Thistles: Poem

Thistles: Poem

Thistles are wild pistols

Known since ancient times.

The purple distinctive spikes

Are here for strength and resilience.

Do you know

That thistle and thorns

Mention in the Bible

As meaningful symbols

Of Adam in the holy Eden Garden.

Thornes and thistles came from a fall.

Figs and grapes do not have thorns.

The stinkweed’s thorns

Are worse than scorpions.

Thistles are both protection

And God’s punishment.

It is a warning of danger and judgement.

Purple thistles are for the reasons

To remind us about human sins,

Struggles, and life challenges.

Something tells me

That love is like a flower and bee:

Wild, beautiful,

And probably bumpy

When you fall

Wildy and delightful

Like a peaceful dove, in love

With a glove,

To touch thorns

And the thistle’s purple ball.
