I Know a Thing
or Two
I am seventy-two
I know a thing or two.
What person will I be
In five years from now,
It depends on food I eat
And books I read.
Also, the people I hand out
And habits I adopt.
Everything that I learned
When I was young
Dominates my conversations.
I can see love in other’s tung
As devotion and belonging
Dominate the emotion of talking.
The spark in the eyes
Says what others brain knows.
I am saying that I am old –
The ’oldies’ station
Is not playing my parents’ jam -
They’re playing, mine,
No decline, perfectly fine.
I am seventy and few –
I am knowing,
A thing or two.
